My Passion Is Nature My love of nature started when I was a child in Maine. My great-grandfather was a major influence in my early life and it was he who took me on many walks in the forest and canoe trips on the rivers. He opened my eyes to the beauty to be seen on these trips in central and northern Maine and explained to me that these wonders could be forever captured in my mind. He also taught me that this would develop in me the ability to see spectacular scenes in what most people see as mundane. I asked him how this could be shared with others. His response was that only our minds could capture the vivid colors and shades of nature. Photography could only capture the essence of the scene as black and white film was the only type readily available. To demonstrate this, he bought me my first camera - a Kodak 110. I tried to capture what I saw on our trips, but alas, he was correct. As I grew up and my great-grandfather passed on, his lessons stayed with me. I continued to see and photograph with varying results using subtle black/gray/white contrast, but once color film become readily available, I began to see a more realistic depiction of nature on film. My paper route money made it possible for me to buy a Kodak 35mm camera. I was in heaven. My results started to get closer to what I saw. Eventually, I joined the Air Force and left Maine. I was lucky enough through my career to have been able to travel to many parts of the world. As my photographic equipment upgraded, my photographic skills improved and I became an avid shutterbug. I did some portrait work and action photography, but discovered that my passion was still in nature, although I have documented my life's experiences through the lens of a camera. Now in my later years, I have returned to my roots in central Maine and have become a Registered Maine Guide. I still enjoy a long walk in the forest and a canoe trip down a river. As always, my camera is handy in anticipation of that unexpected scenic moment. Through this website, I am sharing those exceptional sights I have come across in my journey through life.
